Polyphenolic Antioxidants
Polyphenolic antioxidants are potent, stable, plant derived antioxidants. These are the antioxidants found in wine, grape seeds, green tea, pomegranates, blueberries, pine sap etc. “Super” Polyphenolic AntiOxidants is a term that we use internally to describe the compounds found in CREO formulas as they contain many times the antioxidant activity of standard seed extracts.
There are over 4,000 distinct types of polyphenolic antioxidants. Polyphenol antioxidants are thought to be instrumental in combating oxidative stress, a process associated with the breakdown of tissue, both internally and externally. Think of oxidation of your cells the same way you would think of a piece of metal rusting. “Free Radicals” are very small molecules that come from a variety of sources such as sunlight, pollution, etc. Free Radicals break the bonds between the cells of our bodies (oxidation). AntiOxidants prevent free radicals from breaking these bonds. Hence the term “anti” oxidant.
Free radicals play a role in the process of aging. For example, when the skin is exposed to free radicals such as ultraviolet light, it is commonly known that skin loses it's elasticity much more quickly. Studies have show that ingesting antioxidants in our diet and/or applying them to the skin or hair helps provide protection from free radical damage.
Through the use of germinated seed extracts in our CREOPLEX antioxidant blend, CREO products offer the consumer the highest level of polyphenolic antioxidant activity of any personal care product line on the market.
